Some incisive art design pieces are about drunk people. Drinking is a reality and booze world giclee prints can make a statement.
First time I was drunk was at the beach. I was about 15 years old on a barbecue and drank a whole bottle of vermouth.
Years later I was looking for my cousin Regina on the streets of São Paulo. The nightlife was crazy and she had been lost for about 2 days. Gone with a new boyfriend.
My friend, Edson Viola, a police reporter was helping me find her. We had been looking around for days and, after almost giving up, we got a lead from the guys from the night shift at his paper.
Her parents from a small town in Vera Cruz were very poor and could not afford paying a PI.
So, there was I chasing her around in the wild Brazilian night life. I entered Byblos, a prostitution joint in Augusta Street that I knew, from friends at the newspaper police section, were hiring new girls.
On my way to the bar, I intended to talk to the bartender – what else ? – I bumped into a girl that I knew from years before.
I showed her my cousins picture and she told me she had just seen someone just like her going to the bathroom with a well known pimp.
As we approached the bathroom, just before seeing the pimp coming out of the bathroom coursing every soul he could remember.
There she was, totally passed out almost falling out of the toilet.
Later we discovered that she had only been around looking for alcohol. Those were easier days and truthfully no harm had been done.
She went to rehab and recovered from her drinking problem, but that scene of her, sitting on the toilet with her head dropping to the side and almost sliding down the slimy wall never got out of my mind until I painted it years later.
